Sleigh the Clutter in Your Custom Closet With Our Holiday Organization Tips

If you’re like a lot of other homeowners out there, you love to spread that holiday cheer with your own holiday decorations. Not only is this a great way to spice up your home and spread those good vibes, but it’s something you can also share with your whole family. With that said, one of the most common problems I’ve seen in my years of working on custom closets is trying to figure out what to do with all of those holiday decorations once the holidays are over.

Here are my tried and true methods for “sleighing” clutter in custom closets around the holiday season:

  • Make good use of bins
  • Remember that baskets help and look great
  • Use sliding racks where you can
  • Know that a dedicated shelf works wonders

Now that I’ve given you the basic steps, it’s time to dive into the details and see how you can kick holiday clutter for good.

Make Good Use of Bins

As the pros at Bob Vila point out, taking down holiday decorations isn’t just a bit sad, it can also be a downright hassle if you don’t have the right tools for the job. From everything I’ve seen over my years of transforming closet spaces, it all comes down to using the right systems for you.

To that end, I feel like you really can’t go wrong with a setup of clear bins. Not only can you easily store and get at everything as needed, but you’ll also be able to stack them and see exactly where everything is.

Remember That Baskets Help and Look Great

If you want to go for a more rustic or natural look, I can’t recommend rattan baskets enough. With this simple addition, you can conquer clutter while also giving your custom closets an elegant, homey feeling.

You can go one step further by staggering the baskets, putting one on an upper shelf, another on a lower shelf on the other side, or customizing the setup to suit your own tastes and sensibilities.

Use Sliding Racks Where You Can

On the other side of function, I’ve helped so many homeowners make the most of their custom closets with sliding rack systems. This setup couldn’t possibly be more convenient: Simply pull out the sliding bin or basket, store your holiday decorations, and slide it back into place when you’re done.

Know That a Dedicated Shelf Works Wonders

When in doubt, I’ve found that sometimes the simplest solutions are the best. As with any organizational endeavor throughout your home, it’s best to split up and categorize your items. Not only will this make it easier to get the closet clutter-free, but it’ll also make it easier to stick to the process over time.

To that end, you can designate a single shelf to be your holiday decoration shelf. This will usually be the top shelf, but whatever setup works for you is best. That way, you’ll know exactly where everything is and can keep the decorations out of reach throughout the rest of the year.

Conclusion

The holiday season brings plenty of opportunities to cheer and goodwill, but it can also be stressful having to worry about where to put all of your holiday decorations afterward. By following my super simple tips and getting a little creative in your approach, you should be well on your way to clutter-free, beautiful custom closets.
